In our own Santa Ysabel home, we took on a DIY pantry build that transformed an underutilized space into something both functional and beautiful. What started as a small, overlooked cabinet became a fully functional walk-in pantry, proving that smart renovations don’t always require a massive footprint—just a vision.
Finding Space Where None Seemed to Exist:
In our previous kitchen setup, there was a tiny white cabinet in the corner—nothing more than an afterthought in terms of storage. But behind that cabinet was something far more valuable: wasted space above a stairwell that had previously been accessible only through the cabinet itself. By reimagining the layout, we were able to build an entirely new room within our home, utilizing square footage that had gone unused for years.
Designing for Functionality and Convenience:
Our goal was to maximize this newfound space with practical features that would make everyday kitchen storage seamless. Some of the standout elements include:
Integrated Electrical Outlets – A must-have for convenience, allowing us to plug in appliances directly in the pantry, from coffee makers to blenders, without cluttering the kitchen counters.
Custom Shelving – Designed to fit everything from bulk groceries to small kitchen gadgets, ensuring that every inch of the pantry serves a purpose.
A Hidden Corner Bar – One of our favorite details in the space is a cozy bar nook tucked into the pantry's corner, perfect for housing spirits, wine, and glassware—all easily accessible yet neatly out of sight.
